Sacred Practices, Poems, Prayers and Musings

Pureland Buddhism/Amida Trust

Twenty years ago, while at university, a professor and Zen teacher introduced me to the world of Buddhism. I was enthralled by what it had to offer and while it took me some time to appreciate the value of meditation, the life of Shakyamuni Buddha was an immediate source of inspiration. Soon after, I took Refuge vows and since then Buddhism has been my life compass. I’ve had the privilege of working with several teachers from various Buddhist traditions and perspectives; I am grateful to them all. As Buddhism finds no conflict in honouring and incorporating other wisdom traditions, I’m also thankful to have had Christian teachers and places that continue to nurture me. My life has truly been a beautiful mosaic of sacred teachings and practices. I bring this mosaic of experience to my foundation practice in the Pureland tradition under the guidance of Dharmavidya (David Brazier), Head of the Amida Buddha Order.

It is my intention to help others discover and live the beauty and richness of the Dharma. I am dedicated to this work. To that end, if you have any questions, information or resources you would like to know about or can offer others, please be in touch. It is mentioned in Samyutta Nikaya that once the Ven. Ananda approached the Buddha and remarked that "half of the dispensation is based on friendship, companionship and association with the good;" to which the Buddha replied, "Ven. Ananda, do not say so. Not half, but one’s entire life is established on friendship, companionship and association with the good." Without support the spiritual life is impossible. With support, the cultivation of love and understanding are possible. We require one another to grow in faith.

In friendship,

Teresa
